J’avais donc entamé au début de l’année 1996 une série de module au tour des instruments de mon Yamaha PSR 210. Celui-ci en est au fond bien éloigné, hormis l’utilisation de son Piano, on y retrouve également pas mal de samples tirés du CD La Rocca 2 et même du morceau techno de Roterdam Termination Source – Poing, le tout dans un morceau mi Samba, mi Techno.
Petite dédicace à Caro (Caroline Lepaily), Tchet, Ludo (Ludovic Remacle), Parmy (Laurent Mazzapicchi), Raf (Raphaël Lazzari), Pascal Deiting, Pierrick Hansen, Naguy (Christophe Wagner), V-Drums (Vivien Vanoirbeek).
I had started in the start of 1996 some soundtrack using instruments from my Yamaha PSR 210. This one finaly not so close to that project as i just used the piano with some sounds from the La Rocca 2 CDs and also the “boing” sounds of the techno song : Roterdam Termination Source – Poing in a mix of Samba and techno music.

Parmis les premiers CDs que mes parents m’ont offert au début des années 90 se trouvait un album de Chuck Berry. Mais je dois bien admettre que je préfèrais bien plus mes CDs de techno que ceux de Rock’n Roll. Ceci dit, le morceau “Johnny be Good” a tout de même beaucoup d’importance pour moi, puisque, ce fut l’un des deux morceaux que notre petit groupe de musique d’ados interpreta lors de son premier concert, à l’époque sous le nom des Acides Aminés.
A l’origine, seul mon frère Pype et mon ami et batteur Vivien Vanoirbeek faisait partie du groupe, et nous devions interpreter Imagine de John Lennon. Puis, un autre élève de notre école, Geoffrey Ducastel se sépara de groupe… et nous nous regroupions, ajoutant Johnny be Good à notre performance…
Voilà, donc, même si ce titre n’est à de relation avec le titre de Chuck Berry que la petite intro, il s’agit quand même d’un hommage à ces souvenirs.

In the early nineties, my parents gift me some of my first CDs as Bill Haley & the Comets or Chuck Berry. I should admit that i prefered listening to my techno Cd’s than Rock’n roll one. Anyway, the song “Johnny be Goood” has importance to me cause it was one of the first songs i performed on stage with my teenage rock band, Les Acides Aminée. So, as if that song has just a relation with that Chuck Berry’s song with his title and the introduction, it’s also an hommage to that souvenirs.

Les premiers morceaux sous le nom de Cyborg Jeff , c’était dès mars 1996 !
Et voilà donc petit à petit les morceaux commencent à s’estampiller “Cyborg Jeff”, avec toujours une petite mention “Mc Piet” pour la transition. Ce morceau n’a lui rien de bien original, dans le style Rave Techno Amiga.

So time after time, new songs was signed “Cyborg Jeff” with a small mention to Mc Piet for the transition. That songs was not so original just using sounds from Rave Techno Amiga tracks.
En 1994, l’Euro Dance Music prend clairement de l’ampleur et 2 Unlimited n’est plus seul à représenter ce style de musique, ils sont rejoints par des groupes tel que 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor, Twenty 4 Seven, Ice Mc, Culture Beat ou encore… MAXX. Cette formation Allemande va lancer un nouveau tube, relayant le Mr Vain de Culture Beat dans les armoires, il s’agit de Get A Way.
De mon coté, j’ai encore bien du mal à pouvoir proposer des remixs de musiques poussé, car le petit processeur de mon ordinateur, cadencé à 40mhz et surtout le peu de mémoire embarquées — 1mo — ne permet pas vraiment de pousser plus loin. C’est que pour mettre un morceau de musique sur ordinateur, à l’époque, on ne fait pas ripping MP3 !! Sur ma machine, je n’ai accès qu’à du .VOC en 22.000 hertz, et quelques secondes au plus. Me vient alors l’idée de digitaliser des loops que je ferais tourner au besoin en boucle pour tenter de recréer un morceau de 3 minutes, en travaillant sur la structure. C’est de ce concept que part le projet de ce Get A way, au départ du Maxi CD de mon ami Vivien Vanoirbeek.
Pour la petite histoire, si ce premier titre de MAXX fut un tube, la suite fit plutôt un bide. Le titre No more était trop proche du premier, et au fond déjà très proche de Mr Vain et I Can’t stand it, n’avait déjà plus grand chose à voir. Les autres singles sont d’ailleurs pour moi totalement inconnus. Le producteur de MAXX a par la suite produit le groupe Real Mc Coy. Boris Kohler, le chanteur – rappeur avait par contre au préalable participé au projet Snow – Informer !
In 1994, the Euro-Dance music began to invade all the charts not only with 2 Unlimited but also with new formation as 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor, Twenty 4 Seven, Ice Mc, Culture Beat… or MAXX. This new german team launched a new hit better than Culture Beat – Mr Vain, called : Get a Way.
I still would like to realise my own remix, but my small computer with just 40mhz processor and 1mo of memory will not enought for that. As just listening music on it is not easy, as we don’t have CD-Rom player, and the MP3 will not arrived. I’ve just able to record .VOC files on 22khz and only few seconds. So i had the idea to digitalize some loo that i’ll use to rewrite a 3 minutes songs, working on order structure. That was my concept of that Get A Way project.
For the story, if this first song of MAXX was a HIT, the other one will have no succes. No More was too close of the first song… but also from Mr Vain and I Can’t Stand It was too different from the MAXX spirit. About the two other singles , i had never heard it before today, as if the last one “Move your body” let me think to another formation from 96 : The Outhere Brothers. MAXX producer also work for Real Mc Coy and Boris Kohler the singer/rapper also have worked before MAXX project on Snow – Informer.

Toujours dans l’espoir d’arriver à faire un peu de musique Rock et séduire un peu mieux la bande de copain de notre groupe de musique, Vivien Vanoirbeek, Laurent Mazzapicchi et Thierry Dubois, avec quelques choses de moins électroniques, je repartais donc une fois de plus de la banque de son de guitares du jeu Super Cars sur Amiga.
I still hoped seduce my friends Vivien, Laurent and Thierry with a rock song not soo electronic than the other soundtrack i wrote. So once again, i’m starting from the guitar samples of the Super Cars Amiga game.

Toujours dans l’esprit de créer de la Dub Music, ce nouveau morceau fini par se découper en 2 parties, dont une partie beaucoup plus “Dance Music”. Nebula Hill… drôle de nom, encore une fois ! Je sais que le choix de “Hill” qui voudrait dire la Montagne nébuleuse, vient de Damon Hill, je trouvais que cela sonnait bien… et le Nebula… des Chevaliers du Zodiac 🙂

Still working on Dub Music, as if this song could be cutted in 2 parts with a Dance Music one. Nebula Hill, strange name once again. Hill came from Damon Hill, that sounded great !

MCM – La chaine musicale
Je me souviens, en regardant la chaine musicale MCM, j’avais vu une émission concernant la DUB music, rien à avoir avec le style hardcore que mon ami Christophe Deblire et moi réalisons sous le nom de DJ Dub. Non il s’agit ici d’un mélange “techno” et funky… je me suis donc mis en tête de tenter de faire quelques morceaux dans le genre.
Dédicace du jour : Pascal Deiting, Salvatore Canicatti, Caroline Lepaily, Sabine Fontaine, Laurent Mazzapicchi et Vivien Vanoirbeek.
I remember that one day i was watching MCM, i saw broadcast about Dub Music. No relation with the hardcore music we wrote, Christophe Delbire and I under the name of DJ Dub. Here is mix between Funk and Techno, so i decided to have some try in that musical category.

Creative Sound Studio est né, en ce 5 janvier 1996, au bout de long mois d’apprentissage musicale et de mise en place technique, j’ai pu mettre à profit mes vacances de Noël pour me faire mon petit et très modeste “Home Studio” : Une chaine HiFi Sanyo en temps qu’ampli, un brave PC 386, une table de mixage ITE achetée d’occasion 500Fb, sur base de prise DIN, mais me permettant aisément relier tous mes composants, un synthé Yamaha PSR 210, Fast Tracker II en tant que Sampler et Scream Tracker III comme logiciel de MAO.
Tous les espoirs sont lancés pour devenir un grand musicien et devenir connu, j’ai d’ailleurs relancé une nouvelle fournée musicale de disquette par la poste pour tenter d’être diffusé dans le magasine français PC FUN.
Un tout grand merci à tous ceux qui m’ont aidé actuellement : Vivien Vanoirbeek, Pierrick Hansen, Dimitri Laermans, Xavier Vanhoorick, Laurent Mazzapicchi, Sylvain Martin,…
Pour la petite histoire, le module est basé une fois de plus sur le module Technohead4.mod, mais cette fois avec beaucoup plus de réussite.
Creative Sound Studio is born that 5 january 1996, after long month of learning musics and preparing materials, i had the opportunities during the christmas holidays to finalise my modest home studio with : A Sanyo HiFi used as the amplification, a brave PC 80386 a mixing table ITE bought for 10€, with DIN in/out, anyway enough to easely manage all my stuffs, a Yamaha PSR 210 keyboards, Fast Tracker II as sampler and Scream Tracker III as musical software.
All hopes are required now to be a great musician and to be known, i’ve just send a new pack of module by postmail to the french magasine PC Fun.

For the story, this new soundtrack was based on the module Techno Head 4, but this time with some intersting musical elements.
Et voici donc, un archive complet contenant tous les modules Sound Tracker que j’ai réalisé durant cette année 1995 sous le pseudonyme Mc Piet. Il y a 113 modules au format MOD 4 et 8 pistes, ainsi que les premiers fichier S3M.
La qualité de tous ces morceaux est assez moyenne, mais il s’agissait là vraiment de mes premiers pas dans le monde du Sound Tracker, j’étais de plus dans un premier temps limité par les sons trouvés d’autres module du monde Amiga, puis par ce que me laissait faire ma petite carte son Master Boomer.

So, here is the full complete archive including the first modules i’ve written (under Mc Piet nick) during year 1995. The file contain 113 modules in MOD 4 and 8 channels and the first one in S3M.
Quality of those tracks are really medium, first cause it’s my first steps on tracker, and also cause i was limited to amiga samples and some i created with my poor sound card.
